Bay Area Trip '16

Last January my husband and I went on a weekend trip to the Bay area.  When we got off the plane we were starving (as usual)!  Our friends had made a list of recommended restaurants that we should try.  So when I was looking down the list, I wanted to eat somewhere where I know we'd get full for sure.   Korean BBQ at Gogi Time was the first place I chose to satisfy our bellies. Gogi Time We came to this restaurant late at night on a weekday and it was busy- a good sign that this place was legit!  If you're not familiar with eating Korean BBQ, you get banchan   (side dishes) first to eat and share with your fellow diners.  These small dishes are usually replenished throughout your whole meal: The side dishes surrounding the grill and some vegetables that we ordered as part of our main course Some of the main dishes we ordered for us to grill: Marinated beef and chicken We didn't take much photos because we were that hungr...

Moko Tapas Bar

I was in the mood for eating at a new restaurant and came across  Moko Tapas Bar , which specializes in Asian fusion tapas inspired by  Korean cuisine : The owner, Ryan, was very hospitable and was nice to talk to.  Ryan told us that he used to work in a restaurant at Chinatown and wanted to open up his own restaurant.  He later on partnered up with Chef Hong and they eventually opened up Moko Tapas Bar a few weeks ago.  Ryan also said Chef Hong makes everything from scratch, he will only use fresh meat (none frozen), and refuses to use a microwave! We started off with the  Chilled Cucumber Noodle  - cucumber noodle, cherub tomato, cold vegetable soup.  The cucumber noodles were fantastic with it's clear broth.  The broth was a bit sour, yet soothing.  If you like sour foods, this is for you: Eggplant Salad- grilled eggplant, cherry tomato, grilled shishito pepper, and moko dressing.  A nice, l...

Gangnam Asian BBQ

I usually have been going to Korean BBQ places that offer All-You-Can-Eat, but have noticed its a hit or miss when it comes to the meats' quality.  Me and my husband went to  Gangnam Asian BBQ , which doesn't offer AYCE, but has Happy Hour meal specials.  Happy Hour is currently everyday from 11:30am - 5:00pm then after 10pm - close, so still a good deal to me!  I was impressed with the quality of all the foods we had. This restaurant also serve soups, rice bowls, noodles, combo specials, salads, and appetizers such as this Salmon Carpaccio .   It was indeed appetizing with the garnishes that came with the fish: Since vegetables are always good for you, we had the Assorted Veggies  plate- onions, corn, zucchini, and peppers just to name a few: I was happy to see scallops on the menu!  These shellfishes are delicious and healthy: Other items I forgot to take photos of were the meats.  I must've been really hungry!  T...

E-Jo Korean Restaurant

After watching a whole series of a Korean show, I was craving Korean food (people were eating in every episode!).  I decided to go to E-Jo Korean Restaurant mainly because of its location near Downtown. A small menu compared to other Korean restaurants I've been to I wish I could translate this... We were given small dishes ( banchan ) to accompany our meals:   kimchi , which are fermented vegetables and Korea's national dish, scissors to cut them, and green chili peppers (not spicy). The wall showcasing some of their signature soups  including The Hangover Soup !  I wonder if it really helps... The  Hand-Made Noodle Soup - this soup had a subtle taste (there were spices on the side to add to more to my liking) and the noodles were soft. This was definitely a comfort food to me! This Korean pancake had a lot of vegetables inside and I liked the sauce that accompanied it. I recommend eating this if you enjoy eating ...

Mr. Tofu

To be honest, I've passed Mr. Tofu millions of times and assumed it wasn't appealing place because of it unappealing name (sorry). When I passed by it on a Monday night there was a lot of people, I decided to give this place a chance. To my surprise it was Korean food, which I rarely eat because I never ate it as a child. I'm no expert when it comes to Korean food, but I know when I taste a good bibimbap! haha... Come check this place out! I've never seen a spoon in a cover before =] Their small and simple menu banchan Kim Chee Soon Tofu Dolsot Bibimbap
