Asian Treats

Hue Thai
5115 Spring Mountain Rd.
Las Vegas, NV 89146

On 7/2 I finally reunited with Michelle, my friend since middle school. She suggested for us to eat at Hue Thai, a South East Asian restaurant. We ate here a few years ago and I still remember I ordered the Curry Goat, which my body couldn't handle, but that's a different story!

Their menu has so many items, that it took us about 10 minutes to decide what we wanted to eat! They're known for their Banh mi sandwiches (influenced by the Vietnamese and French), but I wasn't in the mood for eating sandwiches. I'm used to going to an Asian restaurant to eat rice or noodles...sorry I'll try them next time!

For my appetizer, I chose Banh Beo Tom Tuoi (Steamed Rice Cakes with Shrimp):

I ate a generous serving of Pho Ga (Chicken Rice Noodle). I love how you can put as many garnishes as you want to your pho like bean sprouts, basil, and cilantro:

Long Life Vegetarian Restaurant
4130 S Sandhill Rd # A4
Las Vegas, NV 89121

A favorite place that Bronsen and I have been to many times is Long Life Vegetarian Restaurant, located on East Flamingo Rd. and Sandhill Rd. They serve fake meats of chicken, beef, pork, and real fish so they're not strictly vegetarian! The first thing to see when entering are their parrot cichlid fishes. They always look like they're smiling =)

Bronsen's favorite appetizer, Spring Onion Pancakes:

He also ordered Egg Foo Young with shrimp. The gravy is light and tasty, not thick and salty like in other Chinese restaurants I've been to:

I ordered a beef and vegetable dish (the beef looks so real!):

They make the fluffiest brown rice I've ever tasted:

Japan Trip '16: Sushi Bar Yasuda

I had to save my best dining experience in Japan for last at  Sushi Bar Yasuda !  When my husband and I entered the small, intimate restaurant, we saw Chef Yasuda standing alone at the bar.  He had no facial expression (maybe he was getting into the zone?).  As everyone sat down, he was preparing our foods and began talking to us in a calm, friendly manner.   As the night progressed, we all were having interesting conversations with Chef Yasuda from his life back in New York (he was the former owner of Sushi Yasuda ), sushi making techniques (and secrets!), him getting to know a bit about his patrons, and so on. I had told him that we were from Las Vegas, NV and he made fun of how it was impossible to get great sushi to the desert.  Well, after eating my omakase meal, I would have to agree with him! Now onto the food, if you haven't recognized him yet, Chef Naomichi Yasuda is featured in CNN's Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown  episode ...
