San Francisco Bay Area Trip '12

Last June my fiance and I went to the SF Bay Area for a day and a half... to eat!  Well that was just one of the reasons for our short trip.  Since it was his first time visiting there, I wanted him to try as much foods as he could and we succeeded!

The night we arrived, we came to this phở place, Pho Huong in San Jose. This restaurant was one of the few late night joints in town.  I remember the broth was excellent (it was not too salty, I know I say that a lot in my posts haha)! And I was glad to see they had a phở dish that only came with vegetables (for my fiance):

Shrimp spring rolls

I was so craving for beef..

The next morning before we headed out to San Francisco, we had brunch at Falafel's Drive - In.  We all got this special that included a falafel with a banana shake.  I loved this special!  For the first time ever the falafel was the best I've had! And the banana shake was really creamy:

At Fisherman's Wharf, I had to go back to Boudin Bakery and let Bronsen try their Clam Chowder:

Rustic Tomato Soup
We came to Sally's Famous Fishwich based on Yelp reviews.  Bronsen agreed with the reviews because this was the best fish sandwich he's had:

Yum

We walked all over the area in Fisherman's Wharf and here are some random foods I saw:

A Sweet Potato Brownie from Hot Spud, it was an awesome special brownie!

@ Castro District

For dinner we went to Fuji Sukiyaki in San Mateo to grub on some sashimi
I felt like I was in a neighborhood restaurant near my home, it was nice.  The place had a few tatami rooms, wish we could've ate in one, but I noticed them when half way done eating!

I hope this food trip was memorable my love and thanks Chris for showing us around!

Japan Trip '16: Sushi Bar Yasuda

I had to save my best dining experience in Japan for last at  Sushi Bar Yasuda !  When my husband and I entered the small, intimate restaurant, we saw Chef Yasuda standing alone at the bar.  He had no facial expression (maybe he was getting into the zone?).  As everyone sat down, he was preparing our foods and began talking to us in a calm, friendly manner.   As the night progressed, we all were having interesting conversations with Chef Yasuda from his life back in New York (he was the former owner of Sushi Yasuda ), sushi making techniques (and secrets!), him getting to know a bit about his patrons, and so on. I had told him that we were from Las Vegas, NV and he made fun of how it was impossible to get great sushi to the desert.  Well, after eating my omakase meal, I would have to agree with him! Now onto the food, if you haven't recognized him yet, Chef Naomichi Yasuda is featured in CNN's Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown  episode ...

Gelato Messina

At the new Downtown Summerlin  shopping plaza, fantastic shops and restaurants are opening up including a new gelato eatery named  Gelato Messina .  What stands out about this gelato shop is that this is their first US location (they are based in  Australia ) and they make their gelato from scratch using only the finest ingredients.  I guarantee that if you stop by and sample their gelato, your eyes will POP in amazement like mines did!
