Umiya

Umiya (formerly known as Kaizen) on Flamingo Rd & Arville St has quite an interesting AYCE sushi menu.  Other than sushi and seafood items, an array of Japanese foods are featured like Monkey Brain. I wasn't adventurous enough to eat Monkey Brain, I don't know if I ever will!

Another great thing about Umiya is when you are an AYCE sushi patron, you have the choice of having all you can drink alcohol for just $10 more!  There's a set menu for that also.  You can choose certain sakes, wines, and beers... What a deal!!

Our sushi chef, Eric, was nice to give my friend
and I custom rolls based off our favorite fishes.
This was my hamachi special roll :)
This roll came with red onions, tobiko (flying fish
roe), shrimp tempura, green onions, and a special
sauce...  Such a wonderful combo!

Jordan's white tuna special roll thats garnished
with a lot of fried garlic!

A lovely picture of our sushi chef,
he was so funny!

Baked Mussels

Eric creating a special roll that is
not included in the AYCE menu :o

A daily special- I think this was
grilled ahi

Proof!

Left- Lychee Saketini (a chilled cocktail that
uses sake, simple syrups, spirits, liqueurs, etc.

Right- Japanese Lasagna, this baked roll was
quite cream cheesy and had this nice sauce
on top!

Banana Split with vanilla ice cream

This is one of my favorite AYCE sushi joints in Las Vegas!  Umiya has awesome food and service.  I'll definitely be visiting this place often!

***Edit: As of 1/24/13, All You Can Drink is no longer available. It is replaced by the new special, 'Buy 2 Get 1 Free drinks'. This includes Beer, Sake (House & Premium), and Soju.

Japan Trip '16: Sushi Bar Yasuda

I had to save my best dining experience in Japan for last at  Sushi Bar Yasuda !  When my husband and I entered the small, intimate restaurant, we saw Chef Yasuda standing alone at the bar.  He had no facial expression (maybe he was getting into the zone?).  As everyone sat down, he was preparing our foods and began talking to us in a calm, friendly manner.   As the night progressed, we all were having interesting conversations with Chef Yasuda from his life back in New York (he was the former owner of Sushi Yasuda ), sushi making techniques (and secrets!), him getting to know a bit about his patrons, and so on. I had told him that we were from Las Vegas, NV and he made fun of how it was impossible to get great sushi to the desert.  Well, after eating my omakase meal, I would have to agree with him! Now onto the food, if you haven't recognized him yet, Chef Naomichi Yasuda is featured in CNN's Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown  episode ...

Gelato Messina

At the new Downtown Summerlin  shopping plaza, fantastic shops and restaurants are opening up including a new gelato eatery named  Gelato Messina .  What stands out about this gelato shop is that this is their first US location (they are based in  Australia ) and they make their gelato from scratch using only the finest ingredients.  I guarantee that if you stop by and sample their gelato, your eyes will POP in amazement like mines did! Gelato Messina adorns their interior with bright colors and loud artwork, reflective of their passion for making vibrant and creative flavors of gelato There's coffee, lattes, and more drinks to accompany the desserts Cremino - Salted caramel gelato and crushed amaretti biscuits with soft meringue and Nutella Inside the Cremino - all the flavors layered and folded throughout this decadent dessert :) Delish! Peanut Butter & Jelly "Sandwich" - Brioche gelato, peanut butter mousse, a...
