Bernard's Bistro

Last month we went to Bernard's Bistro's second location in Henderson to try out Californian-French cuisine.  This bistro has a nice and cozy decor, which makes it very inviting.

For our appetizers we tried the Ahi Tuna Tartar (top left pic)- served with avocado, ocean seaweed, sesame wonton and ponzu sauce on an egg shell.  I especially liked the presentation of this app, it was so nicely done that I didn't want to eat it!  All the garnishes complimented the ahi well.  The second app we got was the Escargot Belle Époque (top right pic)- land snails, mushrooms and tomatoes in garlic butter sauce.  To me, the sauce wasn't too buttery and I was able to taste the escargot.

The entrees we chose were the Argentinian Pan Roasted Organic Chicken Chimichuri (middle left pic)- with roasted potatoes, seasonal vegetables and pine nut chimichuri sauce; the second entree was Bistro Prime Cheese Burger (middle pic)- comes with caramelized onions and raisins with their house flavor spread.  This burger was humongous!  I needed a fork and knife to eat it.  There weren't too much raisins and it blended well with the sauce.

For dessert, my husband got a slice of key lime pie (middle right pic) and I got the Tarte Tartin with vanilla ice cream and strawberries (bottom pic)- this dessert is an upside-down tart in which the apples are caramelized in butter and sugar before the tart is baked.

The presentation of each dish were all wonderfully done:

If you're looking to have a casual dinner with a right amount of class, Bernard's Bistro is a great place to eat at!

Japan Trip '16: Sushi Bar Yasuda

I had to save my best dining experience in Japan for last at  Sushi Bar Yasuda !  When my husband and I entered the small, intimate restaurant, we saw Chef Yasuda standing alone at the bar.  He had no facial expression (maybe he was getting into the zone?).  As everyone sat down, he was preparing our foods and began talking to us in a calm, friendly manner.   As the night progressed, we all were having interesting conversations with Chef Yasuda from his life back in New York (he was the former owner of Sushi Yasuda ), sushi making techniques (and secrets!), him getting to know a bit about his patrons, and so on. I had told him that we were from Las Vegas, NV and he made fun of how it was impossible to get great sushi to the desert.  Well, after eating my omakase meal, I would have to agree with him! Now onto the food, if you haven't recognized him yet, Chef Naomichi Yasuda is featured in CNN's Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown  episode ...

Stockholm Trip '17

Over a month ago, my husband and I embarked on our first trip to Europe!!! We were there for a couple weeks and spent our time exploring the capital cities of Norway, Denmark, and Sweden.  The two things I found most captivating was the art, especially the architecture, and the food!  Our trip started in Oslo, Norway and Copenhagen, Denmark (check out the links at the end of the post for more details) and ended our Euro trip in Stockholm, Sweden: AB Café Never in my whole life did I eat pastries and drink coffee every morning until I arrived in Europe! A lot of pastries I had were hearty which left me wanting to have at least one daily.  In the neighborhood near where we were staying at was  AB Café .  This is a small, cozy cafe where you can have a small bite to eat and drink before you start your day.  Pictured below is their Key Lime Sandwich, latte, and a bullar (sweet bun).  It was a nice fika !
