Forte European Tapas Bar and Bistro

In the past few years there have been a rising popularity of tapas style restaurants in Las Vegas.  Forte European Tapas Bar & Bistro has got to be one of the top tapas places in town!  Just upon entering I saw vibrant European art all over the bistro and the music selection was great - I really wanted to dance, but of course had to eat!  Forte serves a variety of tapas/comfort foods from regions all throughout Europe like Russia, Spain, and Bulgaria.

Plov (Uzbeki style vegetarian pilaf)- the spices used to make this plov was pleasing to my palate!  Eating any type of rice is my weakness:

Adjarski Khachapurri- this is a traditional Georgian boat-shaped bread filled with Georgian style pickled cheeses and a cracked egg.  Forget pizza, I could eat this all day:

Their clay pot meal cooked the Thracian way:

Bulgarian Mixed Grill- with kiufte, kebabche, and loukaniko.  We actually didn't order this haha, I took a photo before we sent it back.  These three sausages look like meat heaven:

Forte Fries with Garlic and Herbs- a lovely presentation of fries:

Vareniki- a hand-made dumpling filled with potatoes and fried onions with a side of sour cream.  If you don't know much about Russian cuisine, just at least know they eat everything with sour cream!:

I'm glad there were four of us, we got to sample each other's desserts.  This first treat is the Tolumba- a fried sweet dough in honey syrup:

Biscuit Cake- a cake layered dessert with honey biscuits, mascarpone, chocolate, Lavazza espresso, a bit of spiced rum, topped with walnuts and extra chocolate:

Baklava- another layered pastry made of sweet filo dough with walnuts and lemon honey syrup:

If you're itching to try out various European foods, I highly recommend checking out Forte!

Japan Trip '16: Sushi Bar Yasuda

I had to save my best dining experience in Japan for last at  Sushi Bar Yasuda !  When my husband and I entered the small, intimate restaurant, we saw Chef Yasuda standing alone at the bar.  He had no facial expression (maybe he was getting into the zone?).  As everyone sat down, he was preparing our foods and began talking to us in a calm, friendly manner.   As the night progressed, we all were having interesting conversations with Chef Yasuda from his life back in New York (he was the former owner of Sushi Yasuda ), sushi making techniques (and secrets!), him getting to know a bit about his patrons, and so on. I had told him that we were from Las Vegas, NV and he made fun of how it was impossible to get great sushi to the desert.  Well, after eating my omakase meal, I would have to agree with him! Now onto the food, if you haven't recognized him yet, Chef Naomichi Yasuda is featured in CNN's Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown  episode ...
