Shanghai Rose

I woke up back in Los Angeles this morning after being in Tucson for four months. The first thing that popped into my head was, "Where am I going to eat?"  This was serious.  I had a few spots in mind, but the bae suggested a new Dim Sum restaurant that had recently opened up in Studio City.  It was only three months old!  The other Dim Sum restaurant was 45 minutes away from us, and Shanghai Rose was only 15 minutes away.  We had to go.

The front of the restaurant

Yayyy parking!  $1.50 for the first hour, who knows after that.  We were hangry.

Shanghai Rose's owner hired 100% Hong Kong chefs to pleasure your palate.
You can see them in action with the design of an open kitchen.

Here she comes!  And literally with a snap of a finger...

The Pork Dumplings were the first thing we pulled off of the cart.  It was a very generous and juicy piece of pork.

Fluffy Pork BBQ Buns

The sticky rice was very sticky and had a nice little crunch.  Served hot and goey.  Makes for a great starter and has a sweet after-taste.
My fav were the Lobster Dumplings.  Juicy, fat pieces.

Sautéed Green Beans

Bae's fav were Hot and Spicy Calamari.  Tornadoed and crunchy with a light lime tapenade, topped with shaved jalepeño.

Bean Curd

Shanghai Rose was a great experience overall.  Nice date spot! Great place to get together with a large group and just chow down on some delicious flavors in a comfortable environment.

Price for two people.  Like I said, we were hangry.

Shanghai Rose serves Dim Sum 7 days a week starting at 11:30am till 9:30pm from their Dine-In menu.  Every Saturday and Sunday you'll find Dim Sum carts up and down the aisles of the restaurant.

Belly full and very satisfied.  I will be back!

Japan Trip '16: Sushi Bar Yasuda

I had to save my best dining experience in Japan for last at  Sushi Bar Yasuda !  When my husband and I entered the small, intimate restaurant, we saw Chef Yasuda standing alone at the bar.  He had no facial expression (maybe he was getting into the zone?).  As everyone sat down, he was preparing our foods and began talking to us in a calm, friendly manner.   As the night progressed, we all were having interesting conversations with Chef Yasuda from his life back in New York (he was the former owner of Sushi Yasuda ), sushi making techniques (and secrets!), him getting to know a bit about his patrons, and so on. I had told him that we were from Las Vegas, NV and he made fun of how it was impossible to get great sushi to the desert.  Well, after eating my omakase meal, I would have to agree with him! Now onto the food, if you haven't recognized him yet, Chef Naomichi Yasuda is featured in CNN's Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown  episode ...

At the new Downtown Summerlin  shopping plaza, fantastic shops and restaurants are opening up including a new gelato eatery named  Gelato Messina .  What stands out about this gelato shop is that this is their first US location (they are based in  Australia ) and they make their gelato from scratch using only the finest ingredients.  I guarantee that if you stop by and sample their gelato, your eyes will POP in amazement like mines did!
