Cheer Up With Food

Earlier in December we checked out Chronic Tacos  located in the food court at  Palms Casino Resort .  This food chain currently has 30 locations mainly all over California and a few shops in Nevada, Arizona, and Canada: Front Chronic Tacos emphasizes on fast food that's made to order so the food you are getting is fresh!  They do not allow their food at the front to sit out for too long. Chronic Tacos prepares generous portions of Mexican food . On my cheat day I ate at Fat Boy located on 4425 Stewart St Suite 107 (corner of Stewart St & Lamb Blvd).  It's a small fast food joint that serves hamburgers, pizzas, burritos, salads, smoothies (their syrups are homemade), milkshakes, and Mexican food : Chencho Fries - a Fat Boy favorite!  These fries are topped with salsa verde , grilled onions, chopped chicken, and melted cheese: Pastrami Boyger - beef patty topped with pastrami , mustard, grilled onions, pickles and mayo.  If you need a serious protein fix, this "boyger" is for you: Fat Boy makes their meat patties daily and are never frozen.  Toppings and vegetables are prepared as needed, and buns are delivered to the restaurant fresh daily.  If you're feeling gluttonous, check out Fat Boy!

Last February I travelled to Berkeley , CA for a few days.  I was lucky to arrive on a weekend where it was pouring with rain!  Even though I didn't go to a lot of places due to the weather, I'm still glad I got to eat at these restaurants:  Suya African-Caribbean Grill On my first day, my tour guides, Emily and Tammy, recommended that I try  Suya  for lunch.  There's not much African-Caribbean restaurants from my hometown, so I gladly wanted to check out Suya: We all got a combination meal.  I chose to the Tilapia Fish with flatbread, grilled plantain, and grilled corn.  The fish was lightly flavored to me, yet it was distinct.  The sauce and grilled sides were nice add-ons to the meal: Emily got the Grilled Beef on a skewer with grilled corn and rice: Tammy got the Grilled Chicken on a skewer with the same sides I got: All these meats and fish were seasoned with Suya Pepper, a distinctive custom spice m...

Every Saturday and Sunday from 10 am-3pm,  Border Grill  has a brunch special of all-you-can-eat tapas for $35 and Bottomless Mimosas for $8.  This is a deal that's too hard to ignore!  Its so nice to sample a variety of Mexican style dishes all in one setting, they're all excelente!  From what I remember, some of the foods I had in this photo were Green Corn Tamales , Peruvian Shrimp and Grits, and  Biscuit and Sausage Gravy: I also like how Border Grill promotes sustainability .  They serve only sustainable seafood, use meats from animals who weren't raised on antibiotics, has developed a program called, " Good For The Planet, Good For You ", and uses a Natura Water purification system.  In Las Vegas there is such an abundance of Mexican restaurants that I find it overwhelming, but in a good way!  Just choosing where to eat for Mexican food makes it a bit harder.  After over a year of driving pass  Taco Azteca , my friend and I finally went there!  We finally crossed this place off of our "foodie bucket list": In the evenings they have their mini food truck in front of the restaurant: Menu: My friend had given up carne for Lent and when looking at this menu, we assumed the Quesadilla only had queso inside the folded  tortilla .  When she got it, there was also carne inside!  I graciously took it from her and requested from the cook to have another quesadilla with only queso.   For our drinks we each had a Champurrado (not on this menu).  This is a warm, thick, 'chocolately' drink, based on hominy flour, piloncillo , water or milk, and may also contain cinnamon , anise seed and/o...

If you're craving for some authentic Mexican food, I recommend eating at Tacos El Gordo (they have a few locations in town): Just half of the menu.  Red meat and organs are mainly served here! I remember getting Sopes  (on the top middle and right). Eating sopes are quite messy, but so worth it! Also everyone is given a side of cooked green onions and pepper (top left)   Since my non-eating meat husband was with us, his classmate asked a cook  if he could remove the carne from the Carne Asada Fries .  All this sour cream, guacamole, and cheese was already filling without the carne!  Another great thing about Tacos El Gordo (the one on The Strip) is that it's open 24/7!

Earlier in August I went to Sedona, AZ for a relaxing getaway with my love.  Before going there, I wondered how the food would be because I've never heard much about the food in Arizona.  I only assumed their Mexican food was awesome since they're closer to the border than Nevada.  We perused through restaurant reviews online and asked some locals where they liked to eat.  We went to restaurants/cafes based on those suggestions, and out of all the places we ate at, there were three places I really enjoyed: 1)  Cucina Rustica  is a lovely Italian restaurant thats great for a romantic date.  The decorations and atmosphere really did give off a rustic feel. If you happen to be in the East Tropicana Ave. area (near UNLV) craving for Mexican food, definitely try eating at Las Famosas de Jose.  This place has the typical big servings like other small Mexican restaurants, but what makes them unique is they serve 3 pound burritos!  I didn't try it (I love food, but I don't like to eat excessively!), instead I enjoyed a fajitas de pollo . 3 lbs burrito menu Mi fajitas de pollo to go.  I brought my lunch to school and a lot of my classmates got lured to my area with my food's smell... That's how great it was!
